A.W. Mathis is a fine art artist who works primarily in acrylics. Her style of work has been labeled primitive, but she prefers the term educated primitive. Painting scenes familar to all, the artist is also known for pulling ideas out of memory and imagination, then adding a touch of humor and whimsy. Ms. Mathis, who has recently expanded into miniature painting creates distinct one-of-a-kind primitive paintings, was named Indiana Artisan in 2009.
