French Aubusson (mid 18th Century) was one of high adventure for colonists because of the pirateering during the French War of 1756-63. Among the captured loot that was brought back to the Colonies and sold at auctions were the beautiful Aubusson rugs. The large rugs with elaborate floral desings were just as popular then as today.
