To be truly authentic, an oriential rug must originate from one of the traditional weaving regions and also follow ancestral patterns of composition and design. A weaver would not consciously try to express his own creative ideas at the expense of a traditional design. The name given to the rug may refer to its place of origin (the weaving tribe) or to its particular design. This medallion and corner design is typical of a rug made in the Persian town of Kashan.
